What we believe              our passion            Our History

Statement of Faith

WE BELIEVE:

…in the Trinity.  There is one God who exists eternally in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one in power and glory.

…in the full divinity and the full humanity of Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God.  He is the fullest and final revelation of God to mankind.

…that the Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts.  The Bible is our infallible and divine authority in all matters of faith and life.

…that all people are sinners and are unable to save themselves or even cooperate with God in efforts to earn their salvation.

…that salvation is by God’s action alone, who saves His people by drawing them to Jesus by His Holy Spirit.  He convinces them of their sin and enlightens them so that they repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as He is offered in the gospel.

…that Jesus Christ, as the eternal Son of God, became man, lived, died and rose again to atone for the sins of those who trust Him alone for their salvation. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and mankind.

…that God’s Holy Spirit gives Christians the daily strength and wisdom they need to walk according to His will and to grow in holiness.

…that Jesus Christ shall return personally, visibly, and bodily to judge all mankind and to receive His people unto Himself.

Our Passion

Jesus, “seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.”

Matthew 9:36

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.  He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when the heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Our History

Life Matters Christian Counseling & Enrichment began in August 1999 in Rainbow City, Alabama.  Through encouragement from friends in Gadsden, Susan, and Craig began praying about the possibility of opening a Christian Counseling Center to serve Northeast Alabama and the Lord began to open doors.  This possibility was realized when we secured an office on Rainbow Drive.  Craig continued on staff of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Homewood and commuted to Rainbow City two days a week.  The Lord confirmed this call and Life Matters began to grow and more time was committed to Life Matters.  Craig continued to serve on staff of the church in Birmingham until he retired in October 2012.

Susan Boden is our Office Manager who brings a wealth of business management skills and knowledge to Life Matters.

In 2006 Laura Browder joined our Life Matters Staff, and  added a new dimension and benefit to our practice.  We are richly blessed to have Laura with us.

Dr. H. Norman Wright, a close friend and mentor to Craig, suggested that he attend training to be certified in the area of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).  That was in Dec. 2000.  Ten months later he received his first call to respond to a critical incident, the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001.  This work launched Life Matters beyond the area of Etowah County and Northeast Alabama to other states.  In 2005 the Critical Incident and disaster response work was extended internationally through the ministry of Mission to the World.  In 2007 Crisis Care Network (Now R 3 Continuum) extended an invitation for a “Train the Trainer” workshop for certification to train mental health professionals in Psychological First Aid.  Also in 2007 Craig completed training with Kenyon International.

From 2003 through December 2009 Life Matters maintained a satellite office in Anniston at Freeman & Company Bariatric Center with Dr. Bryan Freeman and his staff.  This work opened doors for further training and understanding of the many hardships and health issues people face suffering from obesity and food addiction.

In 2006 Life Matters moved to its current location at 1406 Sutton Bridge Road in Rainbow City and continues to serve people in our city, Northeast Alabama and to the uttermost parts of the world.

In January 2017, Susan Watts joined our counseling staff.  We are blessed to have such gifted ladies on our staff.
